Regular
visitors to my website will notice that I have now moved all
my articles from the section entitled
Ramblings as few of
these articles are really appropriate for this category. I
have now included these articles here in this new section
called simply articles.
The following
are articles that I have written concerning the disorders
featured on this website and also related condtions. If you
would like to contribute your articles on any perspective of
mental health or related
issues which might be of interest to visitors of this
website your article would be welcome. You do not have to be
a professional writer or a professional mental health worker
just a sufferer of an anxiety disorder or other mental
health problem.
If you would like your
contribution to be included please e-mail

Please note the following concerning
the articles written by myself which appear below:
I am not a mental health professional neither am I a
professional writer. These articles and all other writings
on my website are my own personal opinions only. For
qualified advice please consult a doctor or mental health
professional.
Christine:
I know when I need little help
I will get
the ball rolling with something that I wrote recently which highlights my
feelings during a particularly difficult period in my life which I have
entitled: I know When I Need Help. I have written this because sometimes we
become so numb and used to feeling so awful and so often that it becomes
commonplace that we do not know that we have deteriorated and need a little
extra help.
Christine:
Agoraphobia
She tentatively steps outside onto her door step, with
noticeable hesitation she steps out on to the path and with slow
cautious movements she makes her way to her gate and into
the street. Her heart is pounding, her legs turn to jelly, she may be sweating, her
throat is constricted as she experiences difficulty
swallowing because of that lump in her throat. Her head is swimming,
she feels disoriented and distant as though she is not
really present, far removed from the situation. Her lungs
feel restricted and she feels as though she is having
difficulty breathing, as though she is conscious of each
breath that she takes.
You may not know her profound fear as you pass by the
lady with agoraphobia as she hesitantly makes her way along
the busy street.
Christine: Hyperresponsibilty /
Hypermorality
Sufferers of OCD tend to have feelings
of over responsibility and many suffer from a form of OCD
referred to as religious/ scrupulosity OCD. This
manifestation of OCD concerns moral, ethical and religious
issues the rights and wrongs in any situation or action.
Christine:
Hyphochondria
Has anyone noticed how prevalent
hypochondria is as a co morbid condition amongst people who
suffer with anxiety disorders? Hypochondria of course can
exist as a distinct anxiety disorder but it also often
presents with other anxiety disorders.
Christine:
Perfectionism
The desire for everything to
be perfect is a significant characteristic of the
obsessive-compulsive. It is also a characteristic of anyone
with anorexia nervosa. Perfectionism can lead to loss of
self esteem, depression, anxiety, guilt and a decrease
in
motivation and lead to procrastination.
Christine:
Depression. What makes
you depressed?
My psychologist asked me: what makes you depressed? Here is my
response to this question. In this article I will tell you about my personal experience
with depression: what I think causes my depression and how I cope with it or
otherwise.
The following is something I have written
during the early hours of the morning when faced with the inevitable incursion
of intrusive thoughts, fears and depression and when joy is most certainly not
my first feeling. I would like to share this time with you, my feelings and the
things I do to help myself cope with this time of the day. A time of the day
which for many is the most difficult.
Many sufferers of anxiety disorders regret
the wasted years.Yet whatever our negative circumstances need we
necessarily consider that our lives have been wasted? Rather perhaps we should
consider that whatever we have achieved either for the betterment of another or
ourselves has been achieved despite the serious limitations that afflict us. Perhaps we should consider that which we have achieved or the
satisfaction we have experienced however small has been accomplished despite
overwhelming odds. The following are my thoughts concerning the so called
"wasted years."
Christine : Aspergers syndrome, A
personal consideration
Those of you
who have regularly visited my website and read my blog will
know that since my son received the diagnosis of Asperger
syndrome that I have seriously considered that I also may
have this condition along with my OCD. The link above will
take you to the introduction page describing two articles
which explain my reasons for considering the possibilty that
I may have Aspergers syndrome. I hope that this information
may be of some help to anyone with similar considerations.
